I am just wondering how you could forget Crysis which is by far one of the most visually stunning game to have hit PC and Xbox 360. It is also one of the best FPS of all time
A bit different from my own list, but a respectable one, nonetheless. Although, everything on your list really shines in many departments, they each represented a stellar achievement within their own genres.
I would have only changed were giving props to Ratchet & Clank Future, for finally achieving that "you're playing a Pixar film" feeling, and possibly Pokemon Diamond & Pearl.. and maybe having 1 or 2 less shooters.
But yeah, great list. I'm glad to see some cross platform recognition.
I'm hoping a lot of places don't forget Persona 3. I know it won't make it everyone's list(heck, it's possible many haven't played or even LIKED it)... I think even at places that loved it, it might wind up falling to the wayside in favor of games that came out late in the year, much like with the Oscars. Ater the positive reviews and my own experience, it's still my number one game. Took a lot of risks and did essentially every single one of them well.
I should point out that I run a site about the overall series it falls into, but considering I didn't really like the last one (Devil Summoner) hopefully it won't seem totally biased lol.
I definitely understand why people want to see Crysis on the list. Unfortunately, I had not played the game when the list was constructed. As a result, I did not feel right to include it. With Super Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect and Assassins Creed all coming out around the same time, I simply did not have a chance to dedicate the time needed to Crysis. Keep in mind that this was our last issue of the year as well, and that I had to go by what I had played prior to our deadline. Crysis is the real deal though, and I encourage everyone that has a rig capable of playing it to check the game out. I actually recall when Crytek showed off the game during Microsoft's E3 media briefing. It really opened eyes and I'm glad that the final product turned out as good as it did. Crysis really leads the way for the Games For Windows line.
Unfortunately a list of ten cannot fully represent all of the great games that came out this year. However, I do feel that the heavy hitters were well represented. I also feel that the list was a little shooter heavy, but I believe that each game in the genre deserved the heavy praise that it received.
I am happy to see so many enthusiastic responses. We were really blessed with a great line-up this year, and the future looks just as bright. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Army of Two are just months away. Heck, Advanced Wars will likely take up my time in January alone. Not to mention Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots and Fallout 3 due out later in the year, along with the possibility of Deus Ex 3 (hopefully!).
