As discussion of global climate change and sustainability come to the forefront of public discussion, college campuses like Jacksonville State University have begun exploring ways to make their campuses "greener." JSU has several examples of ways it has taken the lead in energy conservation and sustainability.
It's a cold January afternoon. The campus is shrouded in a depressing tone of gray. Up above, dark clouds blot out the sun. A steady rain patters the ground. And somewhere in a dorm room, a student is deciding to skip class. Why? Because he has a green parking tag, and Stone Center is reserved for Silver tags.
The people of Jacksonville have experienced some harsh weather conditions over the past week and a half. Temperatures have dropped below freezing consecutively for many nights in a row and barely rose above freezing during the day. Residents of Jacksonville even saw snow for most of the day on January 7th.
