Joanna McCaughey guided in her second goal of 2005 on a corner kick assist from Daniela Malta to help lift Jacksonville State to its first win of the season, downing East Tennessee State 3-2 in overtime. McCaughey's goal came seven minutes and 40-seconds into the overtime period.

"It was a well deserved win," JSU head coach Julie Davis, after winning her first match at JSU. "We came out and collectively played well today to win. We did a good job on defending today and ran a very organized offense that we've been working on."

Never leading in the match, ETSU's Meghan Morris scored with seven seconds remaining in regulation and forced JSU to its second overtime of the season.

"For us to win this game today, in overtime, took team work," said Davis. "ETSU is a very respectable team, but we worked hard and left no doubt we were the better soccer team today."

JSU jumped on the board first when Ashley Smith scored on an assist from Courtney Moore at the 17:48 mark. The Smith goal gave JSU the early lead and held through the first half.

The Bucs would tie the game just over 14-minutes into the second half on an unassisted Emily Fulcher goal.

The Gamecocks would regain the lead at 2-1, when Liz Hendricks assisted Courtney Moore on a goal at the 62:50 mark.

"This win gives us a new start to beginning our season," Davis said. "We will use this to help propel us into conference play in a couple of weeks."

JSU will return to action, closing out a five match road trip, when Jax State travels to Chattanooga to face the Mocs on Tuesday, September 13th. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. CST at Max Finely Stadium.
